BORINOX® is particularly suitable for property improvement of austenitic steel. The surface hardness may be increased from about 200 HV to more than 1300 HV. The corrosion resistance is not adversely affected, often even an improvement is observable.

PH Steels

(13-8 PH / 1.4534, 15-5 PH / 1.4545, 17-4 PH / 1.4542 ...)

Precipitation-hardening martensitic steels form a very wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant diffusion zone. The surface hardness may be increased according to the swap rate from 300 HV to more than 1300 HV. The corrosion resistance is maintained

Martensites / Ferrites

(AISI 400 Series, 414, 415, 420, 440 ... ...)

Martensitic and ferritic rust-proof steels may also be cured with BORINOX®. The achievable surface hardness is between 600 and 1200 HV. Depending on the application, the suitability of martensite and ferrite must be scrutinized for corrosive stresses in connection with BORINOX®. These steels are frequently unsuitable for chloride-containing or acidic ambient media. Ferritic steels are not rust-proof already under normal ambient conditions.

Duplex Steels

(2205 / 1.4462, 2304 / 1.4362, 2507 / 1.4410, 2101 / 1.4162 .. ...)

The special process control in BORINOX® treatments leads to a uniformly shaped diffusion zone of the austenitic and ferritic ranges of steel in contrast to other processes.The surface hardness may be increased from about 280 HV to more than 1200 HV. The corrosion stability is maintained.

Nickel Based Alloys

(Inconel®, Hastelloy®, Nimonic® ...)

Super-alloys may be well protected against wear with BORINOX®. Previously set swap rates remain un-changed due to the low process temperature. On the surface, a hard and corrosion-resistant diffusion zone over 1000 HV is formed.
